Liposuction is the most common plastic surgery procedure. The reason is simple: The results tend to be excellent, and many of us have body areas which we wish were thinner. Because this procedure is so common, and the techniques for performing it are changing quickly, Rodeo Drive Plastic Surgery has developed a specialized “center within a center” focusing solely on liposuction.

Our medical director was recently selected to write the chapter on liposuction for the Handbook of Plastic Surgery. This important textbook was released in 2004.

Because Dr. Krieger is a liposuction and liposculpture specialist, he was recently selected to write the chapter on the topic for the Handbook of Plastic Surgery. This important textbook was developed to train other plastic surgeons in the latest cosmetic surgery techniques.

The most common areas treated with liposuction include the neck, chin, abdomen, “love handles”, hips, thighs and calves. We treat many men in the chest area, to remove excess fat of the male breast found in a syndrome called “gynecomastia.”

During the procedure, fluid is injected into the fat. This allows for easier sculpting of the tissues, and also introduces anesthetic and a medicine to constrict blood vessels to minimize bleeding. Multiple small incisions are made in areas of natural skin folds to minimize scarring, and small hollow tubes are inserted under the skin to suction out fat. At LipoPlus, we use techniques individualized your specific needs. Some of these techniques include microliposuction, tumescent liposuction, ultrasound assisted-liposuction, and power-assisted liposuction.

During your consultation at LipoPlus, Dr. Krieger will examine you and discuss recommendations for the type of liposuction procedure and recovery program to yield the best results. Liposuction is usually done as an outpatient, under general anesthesia or local anesthesia and sedation administered by a physician anesthesiologist to minimize discomfort and protect your safety during the procedure. Most of our patients have very little pain following liposuction because long-acting local anesthetic is administered as part of the procedure. People usually return to work a few days after surgery. There may be some bruising for a week or so and some swelling for up to two months following your Los Angeles liposuction.
